Tour Overview
Perched on the western escarpment of Mount Elgon—an ancient eroded volcano straddling the Uganda-Kenya border—Sipi Falls is one of East Africa's best-kept secrets. Three spectacular waterfalls tumble one after another through lush hillside farmland, the largest plunging 99 metres into a mist-shrouded pool. The region is also the heartland of Uganda's celebrated Arabica coffee belt, and a guided coffee farm walk here is among the country's most engaging cultural experiences. This three-day adventure combines guided trekking to all three falls with an optional abseiling descent of the main cascade, a coffee-farm-to-cup experience, and an exploratory hike on Mount Elgon's lower volcanic slopes—a perfect standalone trip or extension to a Uganda safari.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Kampala to Sipi Falls & First Waterfall Hike
Depart Kampala and drive east through Jinja and Mbale, with the volcanic massif of Mount Elgon growing ever larger on the horizon. Arrive at your cliff-edge lodge at Sipi in the early afternoon—the views from the terrace alone are worth the journey. After check-in, your community guide leads a one-hour hike to the lower and middle falls. Dip in the cool plunge pool, photograph the rainbow-laced spray, and absorb the first of many breathtaking viewpoints. Return to the lodge for dinner as fireflies light up the terraced hillside below.
Day 2: Full-Day Sipi Falls Trek & Coffee Farm Experience
The full Sipi Falls circuit begins after an early breakfast. Your guide leads you on a four-to-five hour loop covering all three falls, including the main upper falls plunging 99 metres—the most dramatic cascade in Uganda. Along the trail you pass Sabiny homesteads, banana plantations, and terraced coffee shambas. In the afternoon, visit an organic Arabica coffee farm for an immersive seed-to-cup experience: pulp, wash, sun-dry, hand-roast over an open fire, and finally brew and taste the freshest cup of coffee you will ever drink. For the adventurous, an optional abseil down the face of the main falls can be arranged this afternoon with certified instructors.
Day 3: Mount Elgon Forest Hike & Return to Kampala
A morning hike on the lower slopes of Mount Elgon National Park reveals vast Elgon olive and podocarpus forest, cave systems carved by elephants seeking mineral salts, and the open moorland heathland above the treeline. Your guide identifies birds, medicinal plants, and volcanic features along the way. After a packed lunch with escarpment views, descend and begin the scenic drive back to Kampala, arriving by early evening.
