Tour Overview
Kibale Forest National Park harbours the highest density and diversity of primates in all of Africa—13 species including a thriving population of roughly 1,500 chimpanzees. This immersive 3-day safari takes you into the heart of the forest for a guided chimpanzee tracking experience. Walking beneath a towering canopy alive with bird calls and rustling leaves, you will follow the chimps' hoots and drumming until your tracker locates a community. Observing them feed, groom, play, and communicate is a deeply moving encounter that underscores our shared evolutionary heritage. The itinerary also includes a Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary walk—a community-run boardwalk trail where you may spot red colobus monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, and the elusive Great Blue Turaco.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park
Depart from Kampala (or Fort Portal) in the morning and travel westward through the rolling tea estates and crater lakes that dot the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains. Arrive at your eco-lodge near Kibale Forest by mid-afternoon. After settling in, take a leisurely walk through the surrounding tea plantations or relax at the lodge. An evening briefing prepares you for the next day's chimpanzee tracking adventure.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking & Bigodi Wetland Walk
Report to the Kanyanchu Visitor Centre by 8:00 AM for a briefing, then set off into the forest with your ranger guide. The trek typically lasts two to four hours through lush tropical forest. Once found, spend one hour watching the chimps swing through the canopy, crack nuts, groom each other, and interact in their complex social groups. After lunch at the lodge, head to Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a guided afternoon walk. This community-managed wetland is a haven for primates and birds—look out for papyrus gonoleks, shoe-billed storks (seasonal), and red colobus troops.
Day 3: Crater Lakes Drive & Return
Enjoy a final breakfast surrounded by forest sounds. Before departing, take a scenic morning drive through the stunning Fort Portal crater lake region—dozens of emerald lakes nestled in volcanic craters draped with tropical vegetation. Stop for photographs and a short hike to a viewpoint. Continue with the return transfer to Kampala or connect onward to Queen Elizabeth National Park for an extended safari.
